Bạc Liêu Calls for Investment in 224 Projects This Year
In 2024, Bạc Liêu province is inviting investment in 224 projects across five key sectors: agriculture, renewable energy, tourism, trade - services - housing, and marine economy.
This information was announced by the Bạc Liêu Provincial People's Committee during a meeting with businesses on the afternoon of February 13. The investment projects continue to focus on key development areas, including high-tech agriculture (41 projects), renewable energy (wind, solar) and gas-fired power (27 projects), culture - sports - tourism (25 projects), infrastructure, healthcare - education, and environment (35 projects).
Large-Scale Urban Development Projects
In the trade, services, and housing sector, 96 projects are awaiting investors. Many of these projects are large-scale, spanning hundreds of hectares, such as:
- Bạc Liêu City New Urban Area (208 ha)
- Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai Urban Area (400 ha)
- Southeast Tôn Đức Thắng Bridge Urban Area (433 ha)
Additionally, major cultural, sports, and tourism projects are attracting significant attention, including:
- Southwest Bạc Liêu City Culture - Sports - Eco-Urban Area (800 ha)
- Cultural Resort Area (110 ha)
- Coastal Tourism Area in Nhà Mát Ward (200 ha)
Investment Incentives and Policies
Most investment projects this year will follow the model of 100% self-funded private investment. To support investors, the province will offer incentives related to land use fees, taxes, and administrative procedures.
Bạc Liêu Provincial People's Committee Chairman, Mr. Phạm Văn Thiều, emphasized that the province prioritizes selective investment attraction, focusing on large-scale projects and financially strong enterprises. At the same time, medium and small-scale projects that align with local potential will also be facilitated.
He assured that the provincial government will accompany businesses to create a favorable investment environment under the principles of "no unofficial costs" and "easy matters for businesses, difficult matters will be handled by the government".
Strengthening Transport Infrastructure
To create favorable conditions for investors, Bạc Liêu has proposed and secured approval for several major transportation infrastructure projects, including:
- Expansion of National Highway 1A (Sóc Trăng - Cà Mau section)
- Development of a coastal road connecting to Cần Thơ, funded by ODA (2025-2030)
- Investment in Trần Đề deep-water port
- Construction of the Kiên Giang - Rạch Giá - Hà Tiên - Bạc Liêu expressway
- Completion of Gành Hào Bridge by the end of the year, reducing travel time from Bạc Liêu to Cà Mau Airport to just one hour
During the meeting, many businesses expressed strong interest and provided feedback to help improve the province's investment attraction policies.
Bạc Liêu – Investment Potential and Achievements
Located in the Mekong Delta region, Bạc Liêu covers 2,669 km² and has an average population of 921,809 people, with over 52% of the population being of working age (15+ years old).
According to the Provincial People's Committee report, as of October 2024, Bạc Liêu has attracted 202 investment projects, including:
- 184 domestic projects with a total registered capital of 65.837 trillion VND (~$2.7 billion USD)
- 18 foreign projects with a total registered capital of $4.7 billion USD
Despite economic challenges, the province has achieved 17 out of 21 socio-economic targets set for the year. State budget revenue reached 4.207 trillion VND (~$172 million USD), exceeding the plan by 7.6% and increasing by 2% compared to the previous year.
With its investment-friendly policies, strong infrastructure development, and strategic economic focus, Bạc Liêu continues to position itself as a key investment hub in the Mekong Delta region.
